Montana-based Local Bounti announced today that former Freshly CEO and Amazon exec Anna Fabrega has been named the company’s new CEO. Current Co-CEOs Craig M. Hurlbert and Travis M. Joyner, J.D., Ph.D., who co-founded the company in 2018, remain in leadership roles.

In a LinkedIn post commenting on the move, Fabrega said, “Joining Local Bounti brings many threads of my life together. Growing up in Panama, most of the produce that I ate came from local farms. I took for granted that most people didn’t have access to fresh, local, and flavorful food. In my professional life, I’ve seen the food industry from different angles – ensuring the safety, efficiency, and operational excellence of getting people the food they need. But becoming CEO of Local Bounti takes this work to a new level of meaning.”

Local Bounti distributes food to more than 10,000 retail locations across 35 U.S. states and Canadian provinces, with an emphasis on lettuce, packaged salad and cress. A current expansion of its Georgia facility and additional facilities under construction in Texas and Washington stand to increase its distribution reach substantially. The company plans to expand beyond its current 25 SKUs along with new geography. The company’s proprietary Stack & Flow Technology combines the benefits of vertical farming and hydroponic greenhouse production.
